Dubai is a long, spread-out city, so the area matters as much as the place. In these lists the beach clubs and banyas cluster on Palm Jumeirah, Bluewaters and JBR, water sports sit on the Jumeirah beaches from Kite Beach to Umm Suqeim, two cafes are in Business Bay and DIFC, the Dubai Mall massage spa, Armonia and the Sheraton Grand spa are in Downtown and on Sheikh Zayed Road, and many studios and gyms are inland in Al Barsha, JVC, Motor City and Dubailand. Where should I stay in Dubai for spas, gyms and water sports?

It depends on what you will do most. By these lists, Dubai Marina, JBR and JLT put you near Playa Pacha, Banya Forrest on Bluewaters, Padel Islands, Samsara Yoga and Drar Diving; Palm Jumeirah has four of the five beach clubs plus Dubanya, Eforea and Heal Spa; Business Bay and DIFC hold OVA Pilates and two healthy cafes, with Yinyang in Dubai Mall and Armonia nearby in Downtown; and Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim are the base for the surf and kite schools at Kite Beach.

How do I get between Dubai's areas?

Distances are long. The metro runs along Sheikh Zayed Road, and Urban Sky's coworking centre says it connects directly to BurJuman station on the Red and Green lines, but places in Al Quoz, Motor City, Dubailand, Dubai Investment Park and Dubai Islands are easiest by taxi or car.

What currency are the prices in?

All prices are in UAE dirhams (AED), copied from each place's own site where it publishes them, for example 260 AED for a 60-minute massage at Yinyang, 300 AED for a three-hour session at Banya Forrest or 1,499 AED for PADI Open Water at ScubaDive.ae. Where a place publishes no price, the card says n/a.
